BULAN BAHASA

                                            BULAN BAHASA 2019 SMKSH

On the 11th of February, we had the annual and joyous event that is Bulan Bahasa, or 'Language Month' .

It is important to understand other languages  because it's a priority that we should all deem mandatory, especially when being abroad, as it is universal in usage. It is important for us Malaysians to understand and speak Malay language as a patriotic gesture to maintain the country's core culture. Most people find it difficult to speak other  languages that they did not learn at a young age. It is possible, but it depends on our level of commitment. Usually, people mainly speak what language dominated their infant environment.

However, despite English being the main language, we have to know and study the other languages so that we are able to communicate with desired people properly without a mishap in context.

In general, the Malay language is easy to understand for most, but many still lack in formal writing due to the high dependence of slang or lingo within average usage. The country that used this language is Brunei and our beloved country, Malaysia. As Malaysians, we must be fluent in this language as it is our main language.

Besides that we also have the Chinese language which we should respect as the Chinese race makes up parts of our diverse country. Other than respecting that said language, in SMKSH we have provided classes for the German language. Many students have taken part in these classes therefore improving themselves by learning a foreign language that is mostly not used in Malaysia.

To start off this joyous occasion, our principal, Pn Suzieany, had given a speech follow by the official banner, a Chinese calligraphy and a singing performance that was representing all the four main languages in our school.

Many activities had been planned out before hand such as the Story Telling competition which form 1 students had participated in. Other activities such as Choral speaking for the form 2's, Poetry for Form 3's and debate for Form 4 and 5's. These activities had lit up a spark of joy as these activities helped to teach us about the languages that are spoken in our school.
